Who doesn't love getting outside and taking advantage of the sun and beautiful weather in the summer? The sun is not only a great mood booster, but can also provide us with essential Vitamin D! Unfortunately, too much sun exposure can be dangerous to our health.

We've compiled a list of the 5 essential steps for staying safe while you and your family are enjoying the sunshine this summer:

Cover Up - If it is understandably sweltering, wearing clothing can be difficult, but when possible covering up can help protect against UV rays, particularly in young children and babies. Hats are also a great way to cover up your head and face - and keep you cool!

Shade - While it is tempting to soak up the sun, seeking shade under an umbrella, tree, or shelter can help reduce harmful exposure to UV rays.

Sunscreen - Sunny, partly cloudy, no matter what level of sunshine, it's important to apply sunscreen. And don't forget to reapply when you're spending a lot of time outside and in the water.

Hydrate - When you're out in the sun and heat, it is critical to keep hydrated by drinking lots of water!

Shades - Your skin isn't the only think that needs protection from the sun, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays.
